At last I have a DCC problem to ask about! I have a five-amp NCE system with ME turnouts powered by Tam Valley juicers. My two locos, the new Spectrum 4-4-0 and the Walthers Proto 0-8-0, have performed flawlessly using only the factory preset sounds (I've done nothing except assign them different numbers in the NCE throttle and its companion CAB06.
I was away from home the other evening and my wife had a visitor who was interested in the layout. She reported later that they were fooling with the trains, and my wife, unaware of the "yard mode" of the CAB06, panicked when turning the control knob had an unexpected result. She pushed enough buttons to get the loco stopped, but now I have this issue: when I put the 0-8-0 in reverse (and only, so far as I can tell, in reverse), it seems to "rev up" very fast, then slow to whatever setting I've made (usually step 1 or 2). It may run smoothly for some few feet and then have a brief hiccup before resuming its travel. Occasionally it hangs on a turnout, even though the frog juicer is working (this seems to happen right after startup and then doesn't recur). The behavior is the same whether I use the main throttle or the CAB06, and it doesn't seem to matter whether one or both is plugged in.
Is there a way to "reset" the decoder and see if everything returns to normal? Is there some sequence of buttons pushed that needs to be undone at the throttle(s)? Is this a throttle problem or a decoder problem? I've cleaned the track and wheels. Should I consult NCE, or Walthers, or can someone here come to my aid? Thanks for any suggestions.

Does your P2K 0-8-0 have the draw bar wiring connector? I have had all sorts of issues on my two 0-6-0 switchers. One broke a wire at the plug and the other one just fell apart one day on a reversing move.
Anyway to reset the 0-8-0 to factory settings do ops mode programming and program CV49=128 CV50=255 and CV56=113. You should hear reset come from the speaker. Then it should only respond to address 3.

Thanks. I'll give that reset a try, once I've looked a little more closely at the NCE manual; all of this is new to me.
I have a Proto 0-6-0, and I would expect the 0-8-0 to be similar. I had an issue with the physical drawbar connection, not the electrical connection. As I recall, I had to re-work the physical linkage because one of the plastic parts broke.
