P1K F3A DCC conversion
Posted by Guy Papillon on Monday, September 9, 2013 6:15 AM

I ordered a TCS LL8 decoder for a P1K F3A.  On the instruction sheet from Life Like it is stated that the loco has a LED.  When I read the TCS Installation Pictures it is not stated that one should use a resistor between the headlight and the PC Board.  Is that mean that I don't need a resistor whichever LED I use?Hmm

According to the TCS DCC web site, that decoder "has a built in voltage dropping circuit for the front and reverse light so there is no need for resistor use with existing 1.5V bulbs".

That would imply that LEDs will be protected as well.

I performed the installation of the LL8 on both the F3a and F3b with success.  Very easy and fast. About 10 min for both.  BUT I had to reopen the A unit cause the already installed LED was much too bright and i had to install a 1K resistor. Maybe the LED was protected but really too bright.
