Wireless Video Cams
Posted by Trainman Barrett on Friday, September 6, 2013 12:43 PM

Greetings,

I am planning on using wireless video cameras to do the following:  Monitor 3 hidden staging areas, monitor the viewed layout areas with camera direction control, and have a yard master type person see all of this and control all turnouts on the double main.......and maybe live stream video during op sessions.  This will all be connected through a dedicated Wireless Router. My question: Anyone have good results with a particular brand of cameras and/or router ie: D Link, Net Gear, Lorex?  and will this interfere with the Digitrax wireless remotes.  I will eventually have computer assisting with JMRI or a similar program.

Thanks,

Trainman Barrett

Sorry, no advice to wireless cameras, but since the cameras will be stationary, why not use wired cameras?  Wireless cameras I've seen in the past have quality issues; maybe they have improved since then?  I just got a 808 #16v2 keychain camera that records pretty good video (not as good as a GoPro, but it was about $50 with a micro SD card, bought separately).

Maybe check out R/C flying groups for more opinions?

LION has little vid cam. Him attaches it to front of subway train with a lump of Scotch post-it putty.

When run is done, LION removes cam and downloads vid to computer.
