OK, I screwed up!
Posted by jeep35 on Saturday, April 27, 2013 8:20 PM

I was working on installing a decoder in an older Atlas (Roco) locomotive. I had to remove the truck sideframes to reconnect the pickup wires and managed to drop the whole thing on the floor. No damage, but things got a little mixed up. The wheels are insulated on one side. Do both trucks get the insulated wheels on the same side? I don't have any similar locos to check against. Help please!

Jim,

The insulated wheels will go on the same side.

The old loco I am working on at the moment only picks up with one truck.  I would think if yours picks up one side with one truck and the other rail with the other truck, your insulated wheels would be on opposite sides.

Just my thought.

Good luck,

Hi,

Not trying to be a smart..........

Put the insulated sets all on the same side.  If the loco shorts, reverse one set.

Nothing will be hurt by that........... and you have a 50/50 chance of being right.

It probably won't run at all if you put all the insulated wheels on the same side on both trucks, because you won't have a complete electrical circuit.

One truck should have insulated wheels on the left, and the other on the right -- but which is which is something you'll have to find out by experimentation if they have all been removed.
