I want to use an old power supply to feed AC power to my Snapper twin coil switch machine board. The power supply is rated at 18 VAC 20 VA . Snapper says no more than 1 Amp. What the heck does 20 VA stand for? Is that 2 Amps?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

VA - Volts Amps. For DC power it's always true, for AC there is the additional bit about power factor but essentially what you have is an 18 volt 1 amp power supply. Should be good.

On the AC side the VA rating does not equal actual delivered power unless no reactance is present. Since most AC circuits contain inductors such as windings and capacitors, reactance causes the VA rating to be more than the actual power or wattage.
You will be under the 1 amp requirement.
