Does anyone what sources are available for replacement motors for a Proto 2000 SW9? I bought the loco on ebay and was in the process of converting it to DCC. I noticed that it ran super rough on DC, so I took it apart, down to the bare motor, and tried running it. It's very noisy, almost needs full power, vibrates like something is binding, very hot.
Is there anything under $25 or so? Hopefully something that is a drop in fit, and can use the same flywheels.

I replaced one with an Atlas motor - more for the physical size. I wanted to add DCC and sound and there was no way I was giving up a full interior to do so. You can see in this picture, the original motor provided no clearance on top to mount even the smallest of decoders ....
By mounting the Atlas motor on its side, I was able to gain more than enough space to easily mount a decoder on top of the motor ....

Have you tried Walthers? They may have a can motor that would be a direct replacement, even if the model was a LifeLike original.
