MRC Help
Posted by Missouri Pacific BNSF on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 11:35 AM

I have no idea how to program/change the start voltage, acceleration rate, deceleration rate, or top voltage and speed steps with my MRC Express Unit. Is this necessary, what are the prefixes, and how is it done?  I have read through the manual, but being a first timer I might as well been reading a different language!  Please help!!!

Doesn't the Express have programming instructions right on the back of the unit?

With that information and the list of supported CVs for the decoder you want (or need) to program, it should be very simple.

For example, CV2 is the START VOLTAGE for all NMRA-compliant decoders.  Enter the Express' programming mode, select CV2, and enter a value.  If that value is not high enough for the locomotive to begin moving on speed step 1, program a higher value into CV2.

Look on the BACK of the Throttle!   Programming instructions should be listed there.

On top of the throttle on the right side bellow the LCD screen is a button marked PROG. you can programm on the main, make sure the only loco on the track is the one you want to program. Press the PROG button prog prog main should show on the screen. If not press PROG button once more. Press the enter button.ADR should appear. Press enter. SV shouils appear, this is the start voltage,Press enter, the value you want using the number buttons on the throttle, then enter,ACC should appear, press enter, the value, then enter. Follow this procedure for ACC,dEc, TV. When done press enter to get out of programming. This is all in the manual.Speed steps are programed through CV29 I believe. This is a complex CV to work with. Try programming the start, acc, dec and top voltage first. Hope this helps. Also I would join the MRC Yahoo group. You get better help there as the members use MRC DCC prducts. Google MRC Yahoo.  Joe

Thanks Joe! Are there specific values I should enter in each of those areas?  If so where would I obtain that information as I hvae no decoder information, the locomotives came installed with no documentation.

That's the hard part. This is a trial and error kind of thing. I set start voltage to 15 or 20. Acc and Dec to 10.Top voltage is subjective. I like running my diesels at slower speeds. Try 90 for top speed and see how you like it. Keep track of what values you use. The higher the value in Acc and Dec the long it takes the loco to start moving and then slow down. The higher the value in top voltage, the faster the loco runs. Some decoder have a CV6 which is mid range speed. I wouldn't worry about this yet. Just keep trying different values in  the cv's you want to change until you're happy.   Joe
