DC walk-around throttle
Posted by dschroeder83 on Sunday, January 13, 2013 1:24 AM

I'm looking at using this on my small N scale layout, small loop with a yard/industrial area off to one side of the "L" will only be running one engine at a time so not going to go with DCC.  Anyways, was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either of these products.

I have no experience with either of those products, but another one you might consider is the Cooler Crawler throttle system from Tractronics.  We used this system on our large HO scale layout for 15 years before we converted to DCC only operation, and it worked very well.

I'm a DC user, but don't have either of those, however both have received good reviews from others on this forum and other DC users I know.

I use the Aristo Craft Train Engineer wireless DC throttles and they work very nice.

Got two of the http://www3.sympatico.ca/kstapleton3/851.HTM in 2010, and I love them.

I usually will have my two regular cabs running two trains on my Chicago-Pittsburgh mains and then use the walkaround cabs for the Cleveland-Columbus route and for switching in the Mansfield yard.

They're easy to wire, and I wired mine to three outlets (under each of the three yards), which provide excellent reach whenever I'm working in those yards and use the controllers.
