I installed a Digitrax DH 123 decoder in a Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler. After tweaking with CVs 02 and 65 I had a good starting speed at speed level 1 on the NCE Power Cab. When I couple a string of no more than 5 free rolling cars to this locomotive, I have to crank the throttle to level 8 or 10 before it starts moving. Can I do something about it?

You can try tweaking the kick start in CV65, but this will probably also make it jump quicker with no load. This is where a decoder with BEMF would help - once configured to crawl on speed step 1, it will crawl on speed step 1 regardless of load (up to a point). I happen to prefer TCS decoders, they generally don;t even need any tweaking, the BEMF is self-adjusting. A T1 would be a plug in replacement for the DH123.

Thank you Randy.
Guy, a Digitrax DH123 has BackEMF when CV57= 6. Set CV2= 24 and then keet pulling CV2 down by about 4 with each try. You will soon find a CV2 point where you have a good starting speed at speed level 1.

Sorry Gay, Digitrax DH163 is where the BackEMF Starts.
