I have a large section of my layout finished and ready to try out.
my problem is this... When I plug the Zypher into the program track it works fantastic.
but when I plug it into the layout and turn the power on I get these letters an numbers;
c5 followed by a all 8s then the power goes off.
What have I done wrong?

Short Circuit - The Zephyr is cutting off power. You have something wired wrong(or not wired at all like a reverse loop). Disconnect the Zephyr and get a cheap multi-meter and start trouble=shooting.

Yep, what jr said, the built in short circuit/overload protection has detected a short somewhere. You need to check all your wiring and track, there is something wrong.
Also, the "c5" is actually CS for "command station", the mode it is currently set in (not booster mode).

Depends on what turn outs you are using. Also, the reverse loop needs an auto reverser. Digitrax and others make them. Go to the Digitrax web site click onproducts, then accessories and then AR1.Open the instrution sheet and it shows hot to insulate and install the auto reverser. The Digitrax one uses a relay to reverse the polarity .DCC Specialties uses electronics to reverse polarity. Some like the AR1 because you can addjust it. Joe

Maybe - maybe not, depends on what the turnouts lead to (DCC doesn't come into play yet). If the turnout leads to another turnout or track which causes the polarity to reverse, you have a short.
What's at the end of the turnout? A branch line, spur, siding? Do you have a metal bumping post at the end of ANY of your lines which would create a short, therefore needing isolation??
