lenz set-90

Hi have a set 90 with LH-90 controller I picked up used at a great price. All is in working order and the CV's have been programed  along with 4 digit addresses

I am trying to set the LV102 part of the LVZ100 unit  amplifier to a higher track voltage as the Atlas GP40 CN #4010 is a slow runner compared to the Atlas/Kato SD35 CP #5016

apparently you go to CV7 and make it = to 50 and winthin seconds add another value per the chart for track voltage (default is apparntly 16 volts) which is not what I have,. Mine is much lower I do not have a ramp meter to check it properly but when the locos are run on analogue DC on a test track to the same speed it appears to be around 9-10 volts. The prob with the LH-90 is setting CV7 it has no return button to set the second value and the proceedure in the manual is vague at best. It seems from research that the LH-100 throttle is much better when setting values but I dont have one.

? any thoughts

You do not want to mess around with track voltage to adjust the speed on one loco. If you raise track voltage, they will BOTH go faster. Instead what you need to do is adjust each loco. If one is faster at top speed than the other, you cannot make the slow one faster - you cna slow down the fast one to make it run the same. If one is faster at the lowest speed, you can increase the speed of the slower one so they run together.

What decoders are in each of these locos? With a good quality decoder with BEMF you should be able to get very excellent similar slow speed operation from both locos, at higher speeds there will be some difference due to the different motors and possibly different gearing between the Atlas made ones and the Kato made ones.
