QSI Titan Sound Decoder in Veranda Turbine
Posted by chessiecat on Sunday, September 23, 2012 8:46 PM

I was wondering if anyone had installed one of the Titan Decoders in a Athearn Veranda Turbine and if so any advice you can give.  I installed one in their U-50 and it was a struggle but I am well pleased with it. The Veranda Turbine has the body mount tubes inside the shell so it leaves less room and that is what I am wondering about.

Thanks!

Jim,

Just a suggestion.  Perhaps changing your subject title to something like "QSI Titan in Athearn Veranda" would help draw attention to the answer for which you are looking for.

I installed the Titan in my Athearn Veranda without difficulty. Just be sure all the wires are neatly out of the way when you put the shell back on so that they do not get pinched. I think the sound is great!

While I had the shell open I installed the LED light kit from Ulrich. That actually took more work than the decoder but it was a big improvement over the bulbs that Athearn used.

It irks me that Athearn can produce a really nice model and then they stay with light bulbs instead of changing to LEDs. I have to get busy and convert my Athearn engines over from bulbs to LEDs but its hard to do on some of them. The Ulrich kit is nice but a little bit pricey.

Thanks for your response!

Pricey, but you only have to do it once.  If you stick with the Athearn bulbs, you may have to replace them several times over unless you use a better, more reliable brand.
