Surroundtraxx Installation
Posted by CPDoug on Monday, August 6, 2012 2:57 PM

Earlier I posted saying I was beginning installation of Surroundtraxx. After a long journey and considerable advise, I have nearly completed the adventure. All is working fine with Digitrax transpondering. My final tasks will be to refine and adjust sound and syncronize the sound effects. Sound is wonderful!

Would appreciate hearing from others who may be on this same journey.

Enjoy railroading.

Are you using Decoder Pro? Sure makes taming a Tsunami much easier.

Also you should down load the users guide off the Soundraxx web page.

You working with at steamer of diesel? I can link you to the correct one if I know which  one you are using.

Woodone,

Sorroundtraxx does not use sound decoders.  There is a central 'system' that pipes the sound out to multiple speakers around the layout and the sound follows the engine around the layout using Digitrax transponding.

About 10 years ago when this system was announced, it really made sense for N scale as even installing a non-sound decoder in an N scale engine was quite a challenge.  The system sort of sat 'in limbo' for many years while Soundtraxx did other things.  One would see a sample at the National Train Show, but nothing was 'for sale'  A few years ago I actually saw some info/pricing about the system.

For more info, go to the following web site:

My error!

Can't read any more I guess. Thought that you were working with a decoder not the Surroundtraxx DSP-80 system

Pretty sure they have a definition file in JMRI for the Surroundtraxx too, which still needs some programming to get set up.
