I have a number of faily modern O scale brass locos and need to find suitable sound decoders or a combination of motor and sound decoders to install into them.
Can anyone give me suggestions as to what is the best way to go?
I have installed many decoders successfully in HO locos but am not sure which way to go with O scale.
Thanks
Robert
It's going to depend ont he current draw of the motors. If they are no more than HO, you cna use the same decoders, just MUCH bigger speakers, so they will soudn better. If they have fairly high current draws, QSI and ESU are about the only ones that make sound and motor decoders for high current applications. Most manufacturers have high current motor only decoders, and then you could install ANY sound decoder to use for the sound. You probably even have plenty of room to install plugs on the track wires of each decoder, makign it easy to disconnect one to program the other, since dual decoder options can be tricky to program when CVs overlap
O scale should be a piece of cake compared to HO, if you've done HO already. Much more space to deal with

You can easily use 2 decoders as referenced here and just MU them. When you MU them make sure you understand the different ways you can do so and how you want that to work. In this case I would consider advanced over universal or basic MU with CVs locked after setting up each individually.
