Atlas dcc/sound Cvs

My Atlas Gold GP40-2 has a turbo whine sound that is very disconcerting to my and my wife's ears at the factory set level

 

The manual says CV 52 is for Individual sound controls but has no further info

I want to lower the turbo whine while letting the basic engine sound level as it is

 

I assume you can somehow program CV 52

Any help will be much appreciated

 On my Trainmaster it's page 27 of the manual, under the Change Individual Sound Volumes header there is a table. This tellw you what you need to program. QSI uses indexec CVs, so inthe table there is an index value listed inthe column that says Index Value to enter in CV49. The next column is the name of the sound that will be adjusted, and the third column lists the default value. Valid values are 0-15. There's no turbo on a Trainmaster so I don;t have that option.

What you do is find the sound you want to change the volume of, and program CV49 with the value listed in the index column. THEN program CV52 wiht different values until the sound level is where you want it. You can repeat just setting CV52 to a volume number without doing CV49 every time, until you want to adjust a different sound.

Best to do this on the main, since you can have the loco running while doing it and hear the changes right away.

I don't know which version of the QSI decoder you have, but there is a manual for a "magic wand" version here: http://qsisolutions.com/pdf/q1a-diesel-m-man.pdf.  As Randy stated above, you have to deal with CV 49 as well as CV 52.  If you look at page 16 of 23 on the link, you'll find a pretty good explanation.  It indicates that for the turbo sound you'd need to enter a value of 14 in CV 49, and then enter the value you need into CV 52.

I didn't read enough it is on page 30 in my manual

CV 49 is set to 14 for the turbo then 52 is set to the volume value

 

Just as you both stated

Well I reprogrammed the turbo and that wasn't the annoying sound

There is some kind of hum that is very bothersome

You don't have the dynamic brake (function 5) turned on, do you?

Assuming the hum goes away when you mute the sound completely, your only recourse to find it otherwise would be to mute all the other sounds individually until it disappears.

 Is it there at idle, after the startup sequence runs? Or is it even there as the startup sequence plays? Or is it only when moving?

 Is it definitely an electronic sound from the decoder and not a squeal in the mechanism or motor?
