U50 speaker selection
Posted by Truck on Sunday, December 11, 2011 7:26 PM

  Hi guys,

I just bought the Soundtrax 827124 decoder for the U50. I notice people mentioning HIGH BASS speakers for the install. This loco is desighned for two speakers. The recomended Soundtraxx speaker 810054 is rated at 8ohm 0.1w  The mega bass speakers are 8ohm 2w  The aplifier in decoder is rated at a 1 watt 8ohm load.  Are the 2 watt speakers to much of a load for the decoder amplifier.

Also the instuctions on the decoder show two purple wires for the speakers one comming from pin 12 of the decoder for positive and one coming from pin 10 being negative. With the heat shrink on the decoder you can not tell which purple wire is pin 10 or pin 12.

What do you guys suggest?

Soeakers are rated like other electrical devices. The power, in watts, rating, is a MAXIMUM. a 2 watt speaker does not 'draw' 2 watts, it can handle UP TO 2 watts.

There was just a good link to some YouTube videos of the fellows down in Australia who do Soundtraxx installs showing a very nice install in the U50, with the high bass speaker and all. Should still be within the first 2 pagesof this section. They can also probably be foudn in the Yahoo Soundtraxx group.
