could use alittle help
Posted by GGOOLER on Saturday, November 5, 2011 9:55 PM

hello all,

im trying to go thru some n-scale locos to make sure they work like they did 8-10 years ago. all worked fine except 2 of them and they are both the same model and loco. they are kato mac90s with digitrax decoders. ill have to go online to see what ones they are.

first one will take programing and lights work, but the loco will not move in either direction. took it apart and put back together. now lights wont work. when apart i put 12v to the motor and works fine. so im thinking the contact from the pcb board to the frame half are not making contact. so im going to add alittle solder to the pad to make the area thicker and will get better contact. we will see.

the second loco lights work and takes programing, but will move in reverse only. when going foward as i crank up the throttle the booster dsc100 beeps 5 times. resets and continues to shut off till i bring the throttle back down to about 20 or so. so i dont get whats going on with this one. i havnt taken this one apart yet.

any ideas out there?

thanks

glenn

Another forum member had the same problem about 1 1/2 years ago.

Turned out to be debris in the gears.

Who knows?  Maybe this is part or all of the problem.

As far as the lights no longer working in the one loco, they worked fine till you opened up the loco, so you probably just loosened a connection in the process.  Take a close look at your connections.

Let us know how this turns out.

thanks rich, the light thing was me, forgot to run the jumper wire from the ho program track to the n-scale program track. for the locos they are still messesd up. all the drivetrain has been checked and again run fine in dc mode. digitrax pretty much said if the manual reset didnt work, it is probably the decoders. no big deal im using my ho trains, was just trying to see the conditions of my n-scale locos.
