OK, not havin a clue I asked the same a number of times about 5yrs ago. 1 or 2 got real technical which went straight over me head, then a kind soul said Detroit ya burk.
Now that I can do, being in the UK a sound file of a Derby Class 108 had just come out and sounded just right, so a mate put it on a pair of ESU's(3.5 & a Micro), we rigged em with a bell and horn and they work great, one in N and the other HO.
Proberbly sound nout like the real thing. But noboby this side of the pond has seen the real thing and I don't think a sound file's out yet, could be wrong.

There is a "sound project" available for RDC units with Digitrax sound decoders. To get this on to a decoder, you need a Digitrax PR3 programmer box. The Digitrax sound decoders are 8-bit, so they aren't the same high quality that you would get from a more expensive decoder.
The decoders are about $50, and you can download the sound project free from the Digitrax site. MSRP on the PR3 is $85. Your LHS or a friend may have one that you can use.

Loksound has sound sets for vaious European diesel rail cars, although no actual US Budd RDC. However, many of them are similar, small diesel motor with hydraulic transmission, and will probably be close enough for all but the most intense Budd RDC fan.
