I recently bouhght three
I recently bought three SFX004 Soung bug Plug and play decoders. number one was pluged into a 282 ateam locoder.equiped with a Digatrax dh123 decoder--no sound. Next I connected Numbertwo directly to track out put (MRC-DCC) system. Had a smakk puff of smoke, and a burn mark on the SFX004 Sound decoder. number three still sits in the package, afraid of destroying it. Any sugestings? I have two factory installed Locos one steam one diesel, They are great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well Bob you have posted the same thing twice and still no pics.Just curious as for the large gap in the posts. Browser problem?
Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.
How did you plug one in to a DH123? The DH123 does not have a connection for the soundbug. If you are using it as a second decoder, the track wires go to the two holes in the soundbug, NOT the 8 pin connector,. The Soundbug 8 pin conenctor DOES NOT plug into anythign but a 165-seriues decoder. If for example you have an Athearn loco with both the 9 pina nd 8 pin plug, you do NOT, repeat NOT pluf the regualr decoder in the 9 pin adn then the Soundbug in the 8 pin. That WILL fry it and probably the other decoder too.
All you need is to jumper wires fromt he track, usually the red and black wires, and connect them to the two big open hols on the Soundbug. Do not allow the pins to contact anything, put tape over them or something. Or clip them off once you are sure it's goign to stay.
