GARGRAVES UNCOUPLING TRACK
Posted by GARDEN GUY on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 5:54 PM

I just installed a Gargraves o scale uncoupling track and although the magnet works when the button is pushed, it will not uncouple the cars.

i have tried it on several MTH couplers but it is as if there was not enough metal for the magnet to pull.

what am i doing wrong?

Not so much wrong, as in the wrong place.

This neck of the world is inhabited by folks who run on two rails, almost all in scales smaller than O.

If you ask the classic toy train folks, who actually use GarGraves and MTH products, you're much more likely to get an answer.

I have several Kadee electromagnetic uncoupling units for use with Kadee couplers in HO.  I've found that the critical thing, other that possibly mounting geometrry, is the power supply.  The Kadee model takes several amps at 16 volts.  The first time I hooked one up to my accessory power supply and hit the button, the lights dimmed all over Moose Bay.  Get the right power supply, and dedicate it to the uncoupler.

But, Chuck's advide is good.  There will be people on the Classic Toy Trains forum who will much more familiar with your unit than we are.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
