Am I the only guy who has tried this out?

Im a big Digitrax/ Soundtraxx fan and wanted to change over an old BB dd40 to DCC. The old motors were fine enough, though I did replace the brushes, and all wheels with NWSL. I milled out the fans and am replacing them with a couple of sets of see through fan kits I picked up on ebay. Lights went to LED and just for fun I added a becon light on function 4. Threw in a soundbug and will be using a small oval speaker under a couple of the fans. So far, so good. I know....I have made a 50 dollar loco (that didnt even exist) into a retirement account that will never pay out, but I have high hopes this thing will pull the paint off the walls!

Well, a standard 1 amp decoder won't handle twin old Athearn motors, and the price of the heavy-duty decoder is probably less than the cost of a standard decoder plus a pair of new low current motors. It's all about choices.
