QSI decoder resets at power-up
Posted by UPdiesel on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 6:43 AM

Hi guys, I have a 6 year old Lionel  Challenger fitted with an original QSI sound decoder. I am running an old ( original eprom) version NCE Powerhouse pro system. I have no trouble setting the long address either in Ops mode or Service mode on the Programme track. As soon as I select the new long address the loco runs great for as long as the power is on... BUT as soon as I switch the power off at the end of an operating session and then go and switch it back on the loco sounds 3 toots and sure enough it has re-set back to factory defaults, inc short address 3.  I thought I knew all the tricks inc setting cv 29 to 34 and cv 62 to 0 to make it stick ! Apparantly I am not as smart as I think I am . Confused

Can someone please help me with this, thanks.

Sounds like the reset jumper is in the reset position. Believe you will find it under the tender hatch.

This model actually had a switch under the tender. I had double checked it and it was in the NRM (normal) position.I gave it a few cycles anyway just to make sure.......        FIXED immediatly.
