Most modern decoders are dual mode and will operate on DC. The top speed will be a little lower than a straight DC loco because of the additoinal electronics between the track and motor.

Mike.

Ask the seller to enable DC control in CV29 before you buy it. DC has to be enabled or it will just sit there no mater what you do.

Back when I was DC only I bought a loco equipped with an NCE decoder. [DA-SR] The DC function was disabled and I had to find someone to enable it for me.

On DC the loco is very hesitant, especially in reverse. Pretty good when going forwards, but I have to really rev it up to make it start from cold. Sometimes it even changes direction from reverse to forwards! Can't be good for the mechanism, so I never bother running it with DC any more.

It's brilliant in DCC, by the way.
