Problems with Oregon Rail Supply
Posted by whipperpup on Friday, April 15, 2011 12:50 PM

I recently purchased a ORE PRR 4 Track signal bridge back 6 months ago, and subsequently ordered the #144 lighting kit with it. After waiting several months and Walthers still saying the kit is TBA, while the Oregon Rail Supply website says its for sale, I wanna know whats up? I did order the LED's seperate so I can begin to get my bridge built, and installed on my layout.

Not sure I would order stuff from them again.

Is it a Oregon Rail Supply or a Walthers issue?  Did you call Oregon Rail Supply to see if the product was really available?  I had a similar issue with a resin depot kit that Walther said was out of stock and had no idea when they would see more form the manufacturer.  I called the manufacturer and he had them 'in stock' - I ordered direct from him.  A few weeks later I got an email from him - he had called Walthers and they ordered additional stock after he told them my story.  I suspect Walthers does not re-order low volume stuff as soon as it is sold out.  With the poor economy, they may wait until the end of the year before reviewing/ordering some items...

I'm not quite following you.  Did you order from Oregon Rail or Walthers?  Have you contacted the company you placed the order with?  What was their response?

Not sure if you would order stuff from them again.  Which them?  Oregon Rail or Walthers?

From what I have spoken to others who have been using Oregon Rail Supply directly, they have not been returning phone calls or anything of the like. I did call them and left a message on an answering machine... though with being a hobby supplier you would think there would be someone working there to take customer calls during a normal day.

Walthers has said that they have not recieved shipment containing Kit #144 from Oregon Rail Supply. I was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problems with stuff they have gotten or tried to contact Oregon Rail Supply about. Also their website is very out-of-date.

I'm betting that the problem is Oregon Rail Supply, not Walthers.  ORS is a small low tech company.  They don't even accept charge cards.  They often take months, and sometimes years, to replenish their stock.

Pick up the phone and call Oregon Rail Supply.  The owner will answer the phone and give you a current product status.

Many of the companies such as Oregon Rail Supply are one- or two-person shops with very little production capacity.  During the summer months they usually travel around to train shows to sell their products and may leave phones unattended for weeks or months at a time while they're on the road..
