I seem to have got myself into a bit of a problem and would like ask for a little help, please.
I ftted a Soundtraxx Tsunami into an H.O. Kato AC4400 some time around a year ago and it as been working fine using a 2-digit address (06) .
However, I decided to change all of my sound fitted locos to 4-digit addresses, with the exception of this one. they are fitted with QSI decoders and all re-programmed O.K.
For some reason as yet unknown, the Tsunami is causing a problem. I thought that CV17 and 18 and CV 29 had programmed O.K. (programmed on the main) using a Digitrax DT402 to an address of 1006. when I tried to start it up, nothing,no lights no sound and no power. I have checked and rechecked, still nothing, I tried it on it's old address and nothing. Tried the factory reset, CV30=2, quess what, nothing. As I'm not sure what address it has now holding, I can't reprogram it.
However, it does run on DC with sound and lights. So at least there is live there, but nothing on DCC.
So, have I missed something somewhere, I thought I had got it right but not so. If anyone knows how to reprogram a loco without knowing what is stored in the memory I would be very grateful. It would be a shame to remove what would seem to be a good decoder if that can be avoided

Which Digitrax system? One option that may work is to use Ops Mode to address 00 - but make sure all your other locos are off the track, as this is a broacast program that will program all of them. Use that to do the CV30-2 for the reset and see if it now resets to 3. If that works, try setting CV17, CV18, and finally CV29 on the program track. I have exactly 1 Tsunami decoder and I had no problems programmign it in the 'normal' way where the DT402 automatically sets CV29 when using my Zephyr, nor did I have a problem reading or writing to it with my PR3 and JMRI. In neither case do I have any sort of program track booster attached, nor was I using 'blast mode' on the Zephyr.

Thanks for your prompt reply, I tried what you suggested and bingo it worked ,Just to be sure I put CV30 to 2 and CV8 to 8 and everything seems to be O.K. I was glad that you recommended removing other locos before attempting the change as there was one that I forgot about ,that is half built but under power and that too is now on 03 but I'm not worried with that.
I too use the Zephyr but that also has a fault and I can't use the programming track. When I try to use the PAGE mode and enter an address for any CV it replies with dna. So until I can get it into my supplier, I am using the DT402 and OPS mode.

Colin, it may be something for me to learn today, and I will stand to be corrected, but I am pretty sure all you ever needed was to change CV8. I am not aware of any decoder that requires a co-requisite adjustment to CV30.

CV30 isn't needed but it does clean any lock codes for CV16 which sometimes causes the decoder to not accept commands. I've never had a problem with just using CV8 but the CV30 is good if you're having weird problems.
CV30=2 is reset for NCE decoders. It also used to be an alternate to CV8=8 in Tsunamis and TCS.

Sometimes programming the 4 digit addresses can be irritating when you have a Tsunami board connected to an OEM board where both have caps, etc. Particularly in ops mode. I use a program booster from Soundtraxx and program track when those issues come up. Even then I have to resend a few times. Of course in prog mode you can check all the CVs to make sure of what is and is not changing as well.

Randy, Maybe this is where you saw CV30 = 2 for Tsunami.

It's also in the Tsunami DIesel Technical Reference under CV30. Bit 1=1 will reset all CVs to default values on next power up. Bit 1 = 1 equals a decimal value of 2.
BTW, I got this from Soundtraxx a while back:" If you change CV 30 to a value of 0, you can then use the function mapping as is found in the Tsunami technical reference"
It is to change the Bachmann OEM Tsunami´s mapping to the same as the standard Tsunami!

Most assuredly you can use CV30=2 to completely reset your Tsunami sound decoder to factory defaults as noted here:
I learned the hard way as my Digitrax Zephyr-Xtra ( DCS 51 ) went berserk using the "Blast mode" and PowerPax" at the same time on the program track ( Forgot the "PowerPax" was on ) and I royally screwed up my Bachmann 2-6-6-2 with Tsunami sound. Anyway I followed these above instructions and every thing reset right back to factory specs. Then I re-did all the CV's. Runs like a champ especially the chuff by setting a couple CV's as one is CV 112 which to 97= Articulated Engine with medium wheel slip and with dual air pumps. Really does its huff and puff even though prototypes did not have that much wheel slip, but the model really sounds good with it.
