Advice on decoder selection
Posted by Sandtown on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 3:38 PM

I recently bought 2 Atlas n scale locos at a train show both are dcc ready .

One is an SD-35 manufactured in 2000, the other is an Dash 8 - 40B manufactured in 2001 .

Any advice on what decoders would fit these models preferably with sound . I'm new to dcc and any help would be appreciated .

Only sound options without a LOT of work are MRC, and I wouldn't waste my money on an MRC decoder.

For non-sound, if the SD35 is one big circuit board, the TCS AMD4 will work. If it has 2 smaller boards, the TCS CN will work. The Dash-8 is probably also the AMD4 board.
