Advice needed, MTH HO SD70ACe Proto sound, Programming long address.
Posted by ozzytraindriver on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 11:26 PM

Hello,

I recently purchased a couple of MTH SD70ACe's with Proto 3.0 sound. I am fairly new to DCC programming and am seeking advice on how to program a long address to my locomotives.

I operate NCE Powerhouse Pro R. I understand that I need to program on the main and I need to change CV's 17 and 18. I am not sure what I need to change these CV's to. My locomotives are numbered 8321, 8453, 8439, & 9371.

Any advice on how to get my locos from address 3 to these numbers would be greatly appreciated.

You also have to program CV29 for 4 digit addressing--I do this first.   See this link on programming 17 and 18.   It should be in your manual, it was in my Digitrax.

One thing--when I did my MTH, the calculations and programmed in the numbers, I didn't get the exact address I wanted.   So, I had to play around with the numbers a little bit and fine tune.   After about 5 minutes I was good to go.

All you have to do is program CV 29 to 38.  MTH doesn't follow the normal DCC rules but added the CV29 to 38 feature to set the loco to the Cab number.

Also program it on the main.

Chris,

I have the same system and I need to ask but on your throttle in the lower left hand is a push button that allows you to program your locomotive address on the main.

I do not know if the MTH decoder will allow the address to be changed this way as I have never programed a MTH loco but have changed a number of other locomotive address's with my throttle.

MTH loco's don't respond the same as other loco's.  The standard loco programming for Digitrax and NCE won't necessarily work.

I did program a long address on a Proto 3.0 sound MTH SD70ACe with a Digitrax system. My understanding is that CV17 and CV18 are already programmed to the proper values for the 4 digits loco cab address. Using POM simply program a value of 38 into CV29

Thanks for that response, I will know not to try and program a MTH locomotive from my throttle if one is presented to me.

Firstly thankyou for your replys.

I programmed CV 29 to a value of 38. The MTH SD70ACe's automatically picked up the cab address and have retained it.

Thankyou for all of the forum members. Your contributions have made my day.
