Hi all,
Got a BLI J with a sound unit and oh I dearly love it. I have been thinking that since it does have the old QSI chip and stock speakers, does anyone think it'd be worthwhile to swap the speakers for QSI high-bass speakers, I've only read good things about them so far, and swap the original chip for the new QSI chip?
Thank you
Alvie
I will speak for my own experience. I have upgraded all my BLI engines except the first one I ever bought myself, the Paragon TH&B Hudson 4-6-4. It still takes off like a jackrabbit, and after 25 scale mph or so, the chuffs lag behind the valve cycles almost hilariously. I seem to recall that I had a heavy bass speaker added to one of my steamers, a DC model, but I can't remember which one that was. It must have been a Genesis SD75M because that is the only QSI I have purchased as a whole decoder. It sounds great, but I would be lying to you if I said it was better than any other speaker....I wouldn't have been able to compare it to anything else.
They aren't much money, and in our highly emotional hobby, you want to wring every bit of oomph out of it. Why not enjoy the feeling, spurious or true, that you have the best sound the decoder can produce for you?
However, I think the big priority is to get the upgraded chip with its improved performance in all respects. A higher spec speaker can be added when you get bored and run out of other more important projects.
