Athearn Genesis F units with Tsunami horn selections?
Posted by Southwest Chief on Saturday, March 5, 2011 6:55 PM

I just received  an Athearn Genesis AB set of new Santa Fe Yellowbonnets that are absolutely beautiful.  They run very well too.  But I can't figure out what horn CV value to use because they do not match the sheet I have.

Does anyone have a list of the horns (and their corresponding number) that comes with the Tsunami boards in the new Athearn Genesis F units?

The list I have came with the TSU-GN1000 that I've purchased to convert some of my other older Athearn Genesis F units.  This list does not correspond at all to the horns on these new Yellowbonnets.  I figured they would use the TSU-GN1000 on these factory installed sound units.  But maybe not based on the horn selections.

I was hoping to use #7 (Leslie S5T), but the #7 choice for these Yellowbonnets is a single chime (possibly an A200).  Anyone know what # corresponds for the Leslie S5T?

You need to download the Tsunami Diesel Technical Reference from the SoundTraxx web site.

http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/Tsunami%20Diesel%20Technical%20Reference_1.13.pdf

and look at CV 115.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

Rich,

That link was perfect.  Thanks.

Never thought to look on Soundtraxx's website for separate instructions for the Athearn sound equipped locos Dunce

So strange Soundtraxx issued different horns for Athearn sound installed locos vs their basic TSU-GN1000 board.  Wonder if the board in these is cheaper then the TSU-GN1000?  I'll take a look at it when I open the shell to add figures in the A unit.

My ears must be good.  I guessed that #1 was the closest to the Leslie S5T.  And sure enough #1 is the S5T.

Here is the specific link if anyone ever searches this via the archives and needs the horn choices for Athearn Genesis F units:

Glad to help.

It is common knowledge that Bachmann and Athearn both have SoundTraxx leave some stuff of the factory installed decoders, I suppose to cut cost as both are more the toy market.

Others like Bowser Stewart install the same decoder you and I can buy from SoundTraxx or DCC dealers.

The factory type Tsunami are not available separately.

You would be amazed at how many people, NEVER, think of going to the manufacturers site for info.
