Can someone tell me if it's possible to install a sound decoder in a Bachmann Spectrum Gas Doodlebug please.
Yes, but it is going to require a lot of cutting away of interior details to make room for the decoder and speaker.
Do a Google search for this. I have seen a couple installs but do not have the sites.
LokSound and SoundTraxx both have nice decoders with appropriate sounds. Do a Google search for both. SoundTraxx list sounds for some of the Bachmann locos.
Go to You Tube and search for this loco and you will see some of these running with the sound.

Soundtraxx even makes one that'll work in the Key M-160, which is diesel powered. The PN is 827001, which is for the 567 in the SW600, etc.
Soundtraxx also has the TSU 750 which is a gas driven engine and sounds, in my opinion, more like a Doodlebug motor/generator set. It is also very small and I believe that the baggage compartment has enough room to mount the speaker. I would baffle the speaker and drill a number of small holes in the floor to help direct the sound out of the shell. The hardest part may be getting the shell off the frame. I used a thin screwdriver and then placed toothpicks between the shell and frame in about four places on the ends and the shell lifted off quite easily.

The stall current is, 0.6 amps. Max run amps is 0.2 amps. Many use the 1000 Tsunami. A Tsunami Micro,750, should work fine.
A lokSound Micro would work also.I have two 44 ton and a 70 ton Spectum with the LokSound Micro and those locos have a 0.6 amp stall but only 0.3 amps max running current. That decoder is 0.5 amps rating.
I use all three of those decoders. No doubt a 16mm x 35mm speaker wuld work. I use those in my locos above along with a couple VO-1000 locos. All have a narrow hood. Tsunami 8 ohm speakers. LokSound Micro, 100 ohm speakers.
Open up the shell and take a look inside. Go to the SoundTraxx site and get the dimensions of the decoder you want to use and the size speaker. Do some measuring and use your imagination to picture what you would like. Ok maybe it sounds like homework. I prefer planning.
You might take photos and post them once the install is done.
You might have to install a view block for decoder or speaker. I just do not remember what I saw on a couple installs.
To bad those on You Tube who posted their videos and did not do any photos of the install. A couple did mention a Tsunami decoder.

A lot of DCC installs including those with sound decoders are not plug and play. I hope you have done installs before.
