That loco should have plenty of room for a decoder and speaker. Try google and you might find an install with pics. I would also suggest using a soundtraxx decoder. They make one for that loco.

NewEnglandCSXHi, New here just wanted to introduce my self look forward to learning as much as i can. I have a question about adding sound, I have a Bachmann HO spectrum loco link here- http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products.php?act=viewProd&productId=293 How hard would it be to add sound to it i was looking at http://www.digitrax.com/prd_mobdec_sfx0416.php but not sure where to begin thanks. Any advice would help.
It might be hard if you have not soldering or DCC installs before. I do not have this loco so I cannot comment on this install. Again, I have found that Google searches eventually show up some results.
My installs are usually hard wired type. Steam or diesel.
The below link will show you some installs and this guy has a lot of good DCC info even if he does not show Bachmann diesels. Store the link for future reference. Take some time to look at all his site.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Thanks for the replys. Still new and so much stuff can be intimidating. Thanks for the replies.
Hi,
I model USA diesel locos in UK.
I have converted two Bachmann spectrum diesels to DCC with sound and lights.
If your loco is like mine the chassis is a large block of metal which is used to pick up power from track to motor. Also the block takes up so much space that you cannot get a speaker in.
Firstly the chassis had to be isolated from rails. dismantled wheels and disconnected pick up clipped off connector to chassis and connected wires to the wiper plate to take power to motor via the dcc chip.
Next cut away large piece of chassis just behind the cab (aboce the motor fly-wheel) to make space for a speaker and glued in plastic pieces to make a sound box.
Took out lighting strip in roof and completely rewired lighting (which is another subject).
I use Loksound chips which come from Germany but I think are available in USA. My modelling buddy and I have invested in a Loksound programmer so we can download sounds and even build sounds.
Its great fun but we never get time to run the trains - we're too busy wiring etc.

I have not seen any indication that you have looked at the SoundTraxx site so here are some links.
First, the decoder and speaker for this loco.
