Can anyone suggest who makes good quality, great sounding Hi-Base 1 inch or 1.1 inch speakers and baffels for use in an F unit?
I recently purchased several Intermountain F units with the QSI sound system factory installed but the sound really isn't that good. When I pulled the shell off the units, I immediately noticed that the installed speaker did not have a baffle. I'm pretty sure that this is the main reason for the poor sound quality. I'd like to remove and replace these speakers with a speaker that will really sound good. I've heard alot about the new Hi-Base speakers but don't know where to purchase them. Tony's trains? Digitrax?

Email Litchfield Station and ask them They have answered me. There are other on line companies but they are the ones I use.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Alot of factory installed sound use the shell as an encloser ,they say its tite enough ? dont know about the intermoutain but the newer p2k w/sound I have are this way . not to throw rocks ,but when I was looking @ some intermountains f units (and they are very good ) I did not like the fact they only used 1 speaker where p2k used 2 both used the qsi board. in all farness Im only going by what I was told ,never been close to the intermoutain to verify. I have two of the newer P2K F7A units with DCC and QSI sound with two speakers each and if you don't turn down the sound they will knock your socks off.
Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.

I hate blaring sound that "knocks my socks off". I prefer high quality sound that actually sounds like the model it is supposed to be representing. I should not hear a locomotive 1/4 scale mile away louder than if I was standing next to it.

Is it fuzzy? Does it lack clarity? No mid range sound? No high range sound? Does it lack volume? Each of those could be a different fix. To some people if it isn't blaring loud it isn't good. Unfortunately I have no Intermountain Sound units so I only have what you say to go on. I put my "sound" into dummy "B" units so that I can utilize the whole shell for a speaker enclosure. In HO scale, 1/4 mile is 15 feet. Most modelers use far to much sound and think they are being prototypical.
