Soundtraxx sound decoder for Athearn turbine
Posted by tomwazy on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 9:37 PM

I just volunteered to install a Soundtraxx sound decoder in an Athearn Veranda turbine. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I was given the decoder and speakers so I'm more looking for any hints or advice on the installation. Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Hi Tom,

Sorry I'm late, the boss(wife) had other ideas for me this weekend, here's how I sorted mine

The Tsunami is a snug fit.  Flip the shell over and line it up with the chassis.  Inside you'll see an indent over the motor, I used that to fit the chip lined up to the back of the indent.  I used Double- sided tape (not sponge ) under it with leads to front (cab).

As with all Atherns I spliced and shrink-wrap into the back of the 9 pin, saves on hens teeth (8 pin plugs) laying leads under the chip sides as I go, once done Insulation tape is laid over chip and down sides of motor holding all in place.  The Cap is taped to the rear light board.

Speakers is up to you, there's plenty of room for the back one, the fronts a bit snug, but no real prob.  I used a pair of small box shaped ones available over here.  Also watch out for the tabs on the front light-board, I hooked up the speaker leads then fit it, that's about it.

Stood it on me yard of track, Decoder Pro'd in the address and as I like the strobing head-light I prog'd that in.  hope that shead's some light.

Be in touch.
