Hey, I've heard that MRC decoders are cheesy garbage.  Is this true?  Whats your feedback??

Do a quick search on this forum on MRC DCC Decoders and you will find plenty of first hand accounts to back up "what you've heard".

Some have good luck with them, many don't. I'm in the second group.

My experience over the years installing them for other club members has been only one out of 10 has not burned up within 10-15 minutes of use.  The good one had to be returned to MRC for repair but can't be installed because it would melt a plastic locomotive shell.

The last time I have touched one was about five years ago, so I don't know if they have improved.

You could also call Athearn and ask them why they switched from MRC to Soundtraxx.

As noted before a quick search for MRC on the forums will answer your question quickly.
