CVP and Broadway Ltd. w/soundsound
Posted by DavidGSmith on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 2:11 PM

Im new to this part of the forums. My friend and I each have a CVP system .We both have the same problem, Broadway Ltd. with sound do not work. Im sure that this has been discussed here before but I am computer illiterate and do not know how to search for the subject. Is this a problem others have faced and is there a solution? I am in On30 and have the 2-8-0. My friend has a large HO layout and the same problem. Any help would be great.

Dave

Ps Im ticked off enough to just sell the 2-8-0 and get some thing else.

If these are 'Blueline' series engines, this is normal.  They do not have a motor decoders in them.  They only have a sound decoder.  You need to purchase a motor decoder, there is a socket to plug it in.  Both the On30 and standard HO locomotives are available in the Blueline series, as well as the Paragon series(includes motor & sound decoder).

What exactly do you mean by "do not work"? If they are Blueline, then the problem is as Jim stated - they do NOT have a motor decoder and will NOT run on DCC out of the box. If they are Paragon/Paragon II, then they DO have DCC and sound and should work fine. I've had several. So a little more detail is in order.

One is DC with sound. The other is DCC with sound. BLI clearly indicates this in the advertising for both types.

I have a CVP EasyDCC system that we use at our club duirng open houses to run trains on an outdoor HO scale modular layout and we have never had any problems with BLI locomotives not working.

But as others have said, we need much more data in order to help you.  What "does not work?"

Does the sound work?  In order to use the sound functions, you have to push the "Function" button on the EasyDCC control panel under the applicable throttle and then the number key for the desired sound.

If the locomotives will not move at all and are BlueLine, you must install a DCC motor control decoder into them.

You cannot run a non-DCC locomotive with EasyDCC.

  Dave Welcome

A little more info is needed to diagnose the problem you are having. BLI made several versions of 2-8-0 and hundreds of HO scale locos. We need to know what it may have for a decoder if it does and also a little more of the symptoms. Did you try running it on address 3. Are you having a problem programing them? Can you read CV8? This will tell us the make of decoder. Do you get an error when on the program track? Are they making any noise at all?

BLI has an excellent service department and can talk you through problems with a phone call if needed.

Dave, just call BLI tech department, they are very helpful. There number is 1-386-673-8900.

If the engines move and there is no sound, have you tried F 8? That is the mute and turns off the sound.
