I have had the NCE Power Cab for three years and can easily run three sound locos. The NCE SB3a can be added to the Power Cab for 5 amps of current
I buy all my DCC stuff from Litchfield. Quick delivery and free shipping over $75.00 the last time I ordered.

Yes, you can just connect two wires from the Powercab's panel to your track. If you want to be able to program without removing all but the train being programmed from the track, you will need to do a little more wiring. Instruction with drawings are in the Powercab manual which can be downloaded and studied before spending.

Digitrax Zephyr will also do the job for under $200. Connection to the track is two wires to the track. It has a separate low current programming output so it's even easier to connect to a separate program track. Its manual can also be downloaded.

I am wondering what it is that you do not like about the bachmann system you have been using?

There are several things with the bachmann.

The EZ command is a down and dirty unit that will run a train with the most basic functions. It does what it's intended to do well, but if you plan on running more than 1 loco, or run sound, i'd stay away.
