Question on Atlas Switches
Posted by PAMike on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 8:39 PM

This is probably I dumb question, but I haven't found an answer to this any where else and I need help!

How do wire an Atlas switch with no connections?  I've purchased a few switches in the last few months and when I went to install them on my layout I found I have three that I don't know how to wire.

At the end opposite of the mechanical switch there are three screws for the electrical connections.  removing the screws there is clearly something for the screws to screw into to make an electrical contact with the switch.

I have three that have three holes on the same end of the switch, but NOTHING to for the screws included in the kit to screw into to make contact.  There was nothing included in the kit and the instructions included and online have been of no use.

Can anyone help me make sense of this?

Mike,

It sounds like those three are 'manual' switches.  You have to manually move the little white pin on the top to move the switch.  The others have the electrical connections and are 'remote' switches.

Also do you have a camera to provide a pic of the turnouts you're talkign about?

PAMike, are talking about wiring these turnouts to electrically move the points, or about wiring them to route power to either the frog or the rails on the frog end of the turnout?

If you go to this website it will probably answer your question.

As it shows, with pictures, Atlas makes both electric and manual switch machines.  They look very similar, but there are no electric contacts in the manual machine.
