Hi, I just got my MRC Progity Express today. I hooked up a piece of track and tried to check my Atlas H16-44. I moved the jumper to DCC mode but all I get is the 4 running lights glowing orange.They should be red and green. No head lights and the engine does not move. Tried different addresses and the same thing happens. Do I have a bad loco? Thanks for any help,

Dumb (but essential) questions:
1. Does your locomotive actually have a decoder installed in it? What does it say on the outside of the box? If it says "DCC-ready", it does not have a decoder. If is says "DCC-equipped" or DCC w/sound then it does.
2. If it does, did you try address "3"? Decoders generally come with a default address of "3". Until you reprogram it to another address, it will only work on address "3".

The first thing you must do is read the instructions that came with the Atlas locomotive and determine what address the decoder is set on. If there's no indication of this, reprogram the decoder to a new address in accordance with the MRC instructions and try again.
This is the "duel mode" decoder. You move the jumper block to DCC. I checked the pins and they are ok. I programed to address 03. Still the same.
The next thing to try is resetting the decoder to its factory settings. First you need to determine the manufacturer of the dual decoder. Once you know that, go into programming mode and insert the proper value in the correct CV according to this guide and your decoder will reset.

A few questions.
Does the Prodigy indicate a short when attempting to program?
Which "level" of loco is this? Trainman, Master Silver or Master Gold? Only the gold comes factory equipped with a decoder (and sound)
Who makes a dual mode decoder that you manually have to switch from DC to DCC?
I'm thinking of the likely possibilities here: 1 the loco doesn't have a decoder. 2 the Prodigy programming track may not have the gusto to program a sound equipeed loco. Note I have programmed a Spectrum loco no problem with my Express. 3 dead decoder

If it is from the first run, these locos are HO, have a Lenz 2 functions dual mode DCC decoders (no sound) and came already programmed to the last two digits of the loco cab address.
More recent runs will have a Lenz 4 functions DCC decoder. I don't know if they are programmed to the last 2 digits of the loco road number. Reading the documentation should clarify that point.

Boy do I feel dumb. It was the last 2 road # not 3. Atlas tech support helped me with the Red/green lights working also. Great help!! I am getting a Prodigy Advanced 2 cab so I can read back cv's
