Because it sure dont fit n scale.I have a j and it dont fit. Its a 750 not 1000.

 You have a J what?  Before buying a decoder for any loco it's best to check the manufacturers website or other sites like this one to see if it's compatible. There are probably alternatives that will work with your loco.  If it's a steamer the answer is quite often in the tender.

 I  have a  N&W j  and its just too tight the shell wont come down correctly.They need to make these things smaller for n scale. and the price cheaper. A hundred bucks is real steep.

Nice Rant but the SoundTraxx site shows very clearly the dimensions of the decoders. Also, the price will not come down. You would do better to ask here first about possible decoders.

The LokSound Micro N scale is $140.00. I use both in HO scale small locos.
