Has anybody had experience with the new high bass speakers? Is there any noticable difference in the sound? Is the difference enough to bother replacing existing regular speakers?

I can't say weather they are better or not then regular speaker as I am kinda new to sound locomotive and the two loco's that I installed the high bass speakers in were not sound equipped before so I had nothing to compare them two. They were actually two Athearan Blue SD 40-2's that I milled out the weight hidden by the fuel tank so they would accept the speakers.
If I had to take a guess I would say it safe to say the better speaker you use can only improve your sound. The only technical concern I can think of is choosing the correct ohm speaker.
Depending on the capabilities of the decoder, a high bass speaker with a proper enclosure can sound much better; but what quality of regular speaker do you have? Is it properly baffled? What decoder? Some older decoders don't have the low frequency sound programmed into them, so changing the speaker may not make any difference.
I was asking in general terms. I have a lot of sound locos, with Soundtraxx and MRC decoders, and speakers from Tonys,and MRC. They are all baffled properly. I just wondered if the high bass speakers would be worth the effort of changing over.
Yes, I have used the high bass speakers with micro tsunamis. In three locos of similar design and baffling, I liked the high bass better than the ovals that I got from Tony's. The high bass sounds "throatier" on the chuffs, more realistic to my ears.
I will be using them in future installs and retro-fitting them in situations where it is easy and quick to do so. Agree with other posters that the baffling makes the most difference in the quality of sound.
