How to change address on a NCE decoder
Posted by cudaken on Monday, April 26, 2010 5:41 AM

Other night I was changing CV's on a QSI decoder that my PR 3 cannot read. My SEB does not have a programing track so I was on the main. I was using OP mode but some how my fat figures slipped and I went to Direct mode. Change ever engine on the bench CV's to default! Banged Head

Pain in the caboose but I have all there files saved on Decoder Pro.

One of my engines Simon 1966 installed a TCS decoder for me and I saved the file in decoder pro. Then the lights stopped working and Simon took it back to his house. Decoder was defective and he installed another decoder. Here may be the problem. I did not know he used a NCE decoder this time around. So used the file in Decoder Pro for the TCS decoder that was in it and loaded it in to the NCE decoder.

PR 3 will not read the decoder now and all I get is error 308. Engine runs but it stuck on address 3.

Any tips on changing the address on the decoder? I will hook a section of track to the DB 150 so nothing happens on the main line.

Ken,

All NCE decoders reset to factory defaults by setting CV30 to a value of 2.

If you can get that far, then you can reset your long address and proceed from there.

Good luck.

 Step 1: do the reset

Step 2: use an NCE decoder definition in DecoderPro. Using the TCS definition surely set some invalid CV values. If you pullt he loco up from your roster, before you select one of the programmign buttons, change the dropdown for the decoder type to the proper NCE. Or if you don't know exactly which one he used, use the Ident button to let it figure it out.

It is for sure a D13SR with the 4 outputs.  3 and 4 being used for the left and right ditch light.

That being the case, if Ken can reset the value of CV30 to 2, he should be able to reset the NCE decoder to factory defaults so he can reset the long address.  Good luck, and let us know how this works out.

If you can get a decoder to burst into flames with the low power of a PR-3, you will be my new king of awesome.

You may have to do the reset from the DB150 though - just make sure nothing else is on the track. After that though you might as well go back to the PR-3 and DecoderPro.

Well,

I checked with the local fire department in Maryville Illinois and there were no reports of house fires.

What happened?
