Switching Shells On kato SD 40-2
Posted by Railcon44 on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 4:38 AM

I have 2 older still kato SD 40-2 Milwaukee shells and was wondering if they would fit on the new still Kato second generation frame with the speaker in the tank. Has anyone ever done this and is there any changes that would have to be made?

I have quite a bit of experience with Kato as my loco roster includes 40 some SD40-2's the mid range production model which you are asking about.  I recall that a few years ago, I had an older SD40-2 that had the faulty pickup go bad.  This shell was super detailed so I tried it on a mid range production chassis and there was a hangup that wouldn't let the older one sit on the chassis.  I decided to try again another day and run the older unit as a dummy.  Never have tried again.
