I'm looking for a no sound DCC decoder for an Rivarossi Allegheny. I have did some searching on the net about a decoder but only information I can is for sound decoder. The Allegheny has a 8 pin plug in the tender but only thing I can find on the net is information on installing the decoder in the boiler. I have looked for my instruction sheet for the Allegheny but not able to find it. so there maybe a plug in the boiler. Any one here has any suggestion on a decoder and I'm also looking for an instruction manual if any one know where I could pick one up. Thanks for any help.

If there's an 8 pin socket in the tender, there is nothing more in the locomotive itself. All you need is a decoder with an 8 pin plug. Check TCS, NCE, Digitrax, and Lenz web sites for any non-sound decoder that has the plug on the ends of the harness.

Now you've got me scratching my head. I have the same locomotive, mine is equipped with the factory installed Loksound decoder which I am 99% sure is located under the boiler as the speaker is mounted in the smoke box so I can't see why they would put the speaker up there and not the decoder as well. I know where my box is but it's not easy to get to but I'll dig it out and reply here if it is in fact different. To answer your question any decoder with an 8 pin plug will work if you do not want sound.
Thanks for the help. I installed a TCS T1 decoder in the loco, throttled it up and nothing happened. There is a light in the boiler/firebox that stays lit with the decoder installed. Can't turn it off. I afraid it will build up heat and melt the plastic. Anyone have any ideals?
I was reading on the net that there was a batch of these loco that was wired wrong and could damaged a decoder installed. Any one know anything about this?

I think it's time for you to contact Hornby/Rivarossi with your questions because you seem to be confused about what you have and what you need.

Before Rivarossi declared bankruptcy and were taken over by Hornby, they always included an exploded diagram of how their locomotives were assembled, showing all the internal parts. No models were DCC equipped or even DCC ready in those days, but yours should have at least included an instruction sheet on how and where to install a decoder.
You say you installed a TCS T-1 decoder but nothing happens. Have you tried running it on address 3? That's the default address that all decoders are set on at the factory.
What DCC system are you using? Some require that you enter the address as just "3" and some require that it be "03". Read your DCC manual.

Don, more than likely the light is a LED, so it will not get hot. I have 3 engines with lite fire boxes and nothing has melted.
