Kadee electromagnet uncouplers
Posted by Aikidomaster on Friday, February 19, 2010 6:45 PM
I am using a combination of Kadee electromagnet uncouplers #309 and the Kadee under the track magnets #308. I use the #309 for the mainline and the #308's for industrial spurs and for the yard that I am starting to construct. My question is, what power source are people using? I have some PR14 from Digitrax that I use for various needs, such as in combination with the PM42 (power management) and to power the control panels for the Tortoise switch machines and LEDs. Some specific suggestions please.

I found an appropriate wall-wart in my parts box.

The Kadee electromagnetic uncoupler is a big-time power hog.  When I first connected it up to the power supply I use for accessory lighting, the whole town went into brownout when I uncoupled cars.  This device needs a truly independent power supply.

UPDATE:  The one I'm using is a 12-volt, 1 amp DC power supply.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
