Chipping a Proto 2 BL2
Posted by Engine Lane Junction on Monday, February 15, 2010 1:51 AM

Hi

Purchased second hand a Proto 2000 BL2 in the UK and after looking inside I am a little confused regarding the DCC plug. Normally in UK locos the blanking plug is on the top and pulls out to reveal the sockets for the new chip. On this the pins look like they are on the bottom pointing up and the socket plug is on top and there seems to be little room to prise it off. Any ideas and finally what would members suggest as a suitable decoder for this loco?

regards

You have to separate the top board from the lower board.  This locomotive requires a special decoder with integrated pins that plugs into the bottom of the top board.  If you search the TCS, NCE, or Digitrax web sites you can probably find photos of installs for one of these models.

If I understand your description correctly, your model is similar to a P2K GP38-2 shown on the TCS web site.

HI

Thank you for you advice. I have bookmarked the sites fyou mentioned for future reference and have sourced an appropriate decoder and resistors for the lights from the UK
