QSI Rev. U & Blue Bx SD45 Power Surging
Posted by Renzetti on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 2:55 PM

I have installed a Quantum Revolution Universal decoder in an older Athearn Blue Box SD45, the installation was anything but smooth. However the sound is great and on the programing track seemed fine. Once it was put on the mainline and power put to it the engine seemed to surge as it moved around and I have no idea what is causing the surging. Has anyone else experienced this condition and or have any ideas as to what would be causing this problem.

Turn off BEMF and see if that solves the surging problem.  Download the QSI Revolution Technical Reference Manual for a full listing of all CVs that may need adjustment now or in the future.

Here's the link to the Revolution U manual.  No home should be without one.

Ralph i had the same thing happen with my blue box sd45. what I did was lubricate the worm , gears, and motor and then set a value to CV2 (STARTING VOLTAGE) from then on it ran smooth.
If you ran a no car train on no track, how long would it take to derail?
