i was wondering if there are any hobbiest or model railroad shops that offer a service to install decoders in N scale engines. i have a dcc ready atlas GP-38 (just bought a few months ago) and an older (circa 1994) atlas GP-35 (made in japan-with kato motor) and i think that the process is above me. i know that the GP-35 install is and the guys at atlas made the GP 38 install seem hard too.
i met a guy at the greenberg show in winchester Ma that did this but i can't get a hold of him. his web site must be down.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
john
p.s. i am in NH but would ship the engine.
Here's a place that does them. I frequent the shop and they're knowledgeable and reputable. http://www.linsjunction.com/dcc.html Just give Paul a call.
You'll probably get other responses as well since there are several places that offer the service.

Since you mention Winchester Ma, you are in the MA area. Tony's Trains will be at the Big E show this weekend in West Springfield, MA. They do DCC installations at the show. I have seen this in the past.
Below is a link to the show. With building layout and vendor location.

Post the name of the vendor you heard about. Maybe someone here has contact info.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
thanks guys. i will try the local guys first since i want to support the people in the area. i can"t go to the big E this weekend. i would love to go but can't. i will try and contact these people to see if they can help. also there is a place in woburn i think called train tek. i bought a dcc decoder off them for a new kato sd 70mac engine the other day. i will see if they do it also.
The one that is DCC ready probably just requires you to take off the shell and plug the decoder into an existing 8 pin jack. Just buy the right decoder for it and installing it takes 5 minutes.
Take it to Maine Trains in Chelmsford, MA. www.mainetrains.com. The do a lot of decoder installs, sound upgrades and general repairs, too.
