Replacing Ditch Lights on Athearn SD60i
Posted by Hamltnblue on Sunday, January 10, 2010 9:41 AM

Hello All

I don't like the looks of the ditchlights on my SD60i and want to replace them with LED's.  What is the best way to remove the existing micro bulbs?

On an Athearn Genesis SD70 the cab had to be removed, and then remove the cab interior to get to the wiring of the ditch light bulbs.  The SD60 may be the same.  It was a very tedious, delicate project.

Thanks,

What size LED did you use?  Will 3mm fit?

No, 3mm were too big.  I used surface mount LEDs.  But again, this is speaking only of the SD70M -- an SD60i may be made differently.  The only suggestion I can offer is that you open it up and see what will fit.  The Athearn 1.5 volt incandescent bulbs are smaller than 3mm.
