Adding more lights to locos
Posted by wholeman on Thursday, January 7, 2010 8:47 PM

I am considering adding sound to some locos this summer.  I am looking at QSI Revolution U for the decoders.  The units will be Athearn RTR and Genesis.  I am going to upgrade the lights in the RTR to LEDs and might do it to the Genesis'.  My question is how hard would it be to upgrade to lighted number board and a cab light with these locos?  I am already going to install ditch lights in them.

It wouldn't be that hard. Just read the manual and it should tell you what to do. I have tried using QSI decoders and for me the sound quality isn't that great. I find that Soundtraxx TSU-GN100 series decoders are the best in sound quality.
If you ran a no car train on no track, how long would it take to derail?

If I am not mistaken depending on the decoder you use you may have to run a resistor in series with the LED so it's not just a direct swap out. I know that a TCS decoders can run 1.5 volt lighting.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?
