Conversion of NCE PowerCab to Radio Controller (Part 2)
Posted by tsanders1950 on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 12:50 PM

Thank you for responding to my other inquiry on this topic. I only have one other question: can I purchase either the Cab04pr unit or should I purchase another hand held unit with all the programming capabilties?  Also, can I use the Cab04 unit to recall locos? I didnt see a recall button on the unit but rather there is a Option button.  Lastly, can I still use the PowerCab at the same time as the Cab04 unit?  Thanks for your input.

tsanders,

I can't answer your radio inquiry but I can answer the non-radio CAB-04 throttle question.  There is no recall button on the CAB-04 throttles.  You have to press SELECT LOCO each time you want to change to another address.  However, according to the CAB-04 throttle manual, the OPTION key can be reconfigured so that it can be used as a RECALL button.  All you need to do is to follow the directions under Setting the OPTION key in the CAB-04 manual and change the value of the OPTION key to "66".  [Default is "67" - Direction]

The CAB-04 throttles are made to be used with either the PH-Pro or Power Cab systems.  Hope that helps...

thanks for your timely reply; like your website about your NYC layout. Appreciate the comments about the PowerCab system; still waiting for other replies to this forum to determine if I should purchase the smaller hand held controller or another Power Cab with Radio control built in.  My layout is large enough that when I am switching or other functions, I have to put my controller down since the cord is not long enough to extend to various areas of my layout. Therefore I have decided to make the move to radio controllers to operate the DCC system. I am very satisfied with the NCE system but on the other hand dont want to break the bank in purchasing these items.  I will let you know how it works out once I decide to move ahead on the purchase. I might call Tonys Trains (where I purchased my PowerCab system) and speak to them about it.  thanks again and keep on "training"
